24 V I D E O A G E August/Sept. 2021 Fal l 2021 Event Planner Crazy People Are Flying High S ince the start of 2021, the Federal Aviation Admin- istration or FAA (the U.S. agency in charge of air travel), has received 3,615 reports of un- ruly passengers and started 610 investigations. These reports tend to highlight daily local TV news reports with the obliga- tory videos made public by folks who had the misfortune of fly- ing with these disorderly travel- ers. Of these incidents, 2,666 were about refusal to comply with a Federal requirement to wear a mask while onboard. Other infringements con- cerned smoking, fistfights, and assaulting flight crews while flying, but some incidents hap- pened before a plane even left the gate. On the ground, more than 70 TSA agents — those federal officials who oversee airport security and screenings prior to boarding — have been physically assaulted since the start of the pandemic.
