24 Event Planner & Travel News May/June 2021 Anti-COVID Flights: Do Airlines Know What To Do? T he rules are simple. It’s their execution that is complex. This is possibly due to the fact that airlines just don’t know what to do. Let’s help them with a dose of com- mon sense. First, mandate that each passenger, before board- ing, show proof of a negative COVID test conducted within the last 48 hours. Second, en- force wearing a mask on the plane. Third, assure that social distancing is actually happen- ing onboard. The most logical way to do this is by leaving the infamous middle seat open in all rows. Unfortunately, the airlines think otherwise and since early this month even Delta stopped blocking the middle seat. Fourth, install hand-sanitizing stations by the toilets. Finally, passengers should embark and disembark one row after anoth- er — not all at once. With these measures in place, it is virtu- ally guaranteed that people will, once again, return comfortably to flying the “friendly” skies.
