Visionary director Tim Burton was the guest of honor at Lucca Comics & Games — the pop culture festival currently taking place in Lucca, Italy — ahead of tonight’s European Fan Screening of his first TV series, Wednesday (available on Netflix on November 23).
The 8-episode mystery/supernatural series follows Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the murder mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
Jenna Ortega plays the protagonist Wednesday Addams; Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams) and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams) take on the other iconic roles in the Addams family. Burton has directed the first 4 episodes of the series, created by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar.
In other Lucca Comics news, a self-portrait of legendary cartoon artist Will Eisner has entered Italy’s Uffizi collection. In exchange, a precious Uffizi piece by Agostino Carracci dating back to the 17th century came to Lucca Comics & Games. The two works are being exhibited together for the duration of the event (October 28-November 1).
