Mega Global Entertainment (MGE) is the new Miami, Florida-based company created by Mega TV of Chile and Esperanza Garay, who will serve as MGE’s CEO, to distribute all of MEGA’s drama and entertainment formats internationally.
MGE debuted during L.A. Screenings 2018 and, along with the MEGA catalogue, the powers that be also presented content and formats from ZONA A., a Bogotá, Colombia-based firm that offers a diverse selection of movies, series, miniseries, and telenovelas, and also represents international writers.
Garay started her career in 1990 with Zebracom Internacional, a TV content distributor that she helped create. Afterwards, she served as SVP of International Sales and Acquisitions for Telemundo International, managing Latin American territories, working to strengthen the company’s relationships with key clients within and outside the region for 18 years. She was at Telemundo International until last month.
MEGA, a Chilean open television operator, started transmitting in 1990, becoming the first communications company to face the challenges of private television in Chile.
In March 2012, Bethia Group, a holding company that brings together businesses such as Falabella, Latam Airlines group, Colmena Salud, and Aguas Andinas y Ancali, among others, acquired 100 percent of MEGA, and in May 2016, Discovery Communications bought 27.5 percent of the MEGA holding, which includes the TV network and radio stations.
Stated Patricio Hernandez, CEO of MEGA Holding, “This new step is fundamental for MEGA’s international roll-out. Our content and production sales should have a presence on each of the five continents and be available on all platforms. We have full confidence in Esperanza Garay’s strong background. [She and] her team will take MGE to the highest reputation level.”
Added Garay, “I am very proud to be a part of the MEGA group and to start a project of this nature. We intend to take MEGA TV to the next level in terms of its international impact.”
