Claude Perrier is the 20th International TV Distribution Hall of Fame honoree and will be featured in the October (MIPCOM) edition of VideoAge.
The 87-year-old Perrier is the first French TV executive to receive the honor that, so far, has included one recipient from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Japan, Mexico and the U.K., two from Germany and 10 from the U.S. (two of whom were born in Cuba).
She’s also the second female Hall of Fame honoree, making her a true pioneer.Perrier’s career started with MCA (now NBCUniversal) in Paris in 1953 and she attended the very first MIP-TV in Lyon in 1963; for in 1993 Perrier was recognized by the market’s organizers during MIP-TV’s 30th Anniversary celebration at the Palm Beach Casino in Cannes.
Her fascinating 47-year professional story (35 years with MCA) will not only recount the history of French television, but also the U.S. studios’ entrance into television, their dealing with antitrust charges and the studios’ incarnation under various ownership. All of this will be included without neglecting amusing anecdotes about Perrier’s experiences at MIP-TV and the L.A. Screenings (which she attended as early as 1968; four years after they began), and her business dealings with Jules Stein, the co-founder ofMusic Corporation of America (MCA) in 1924.
