Global distributor Cisneros Media Distribution (CMD) has signed an exclusive worldwide representation deal with the “first family” of Brazilian film: the Barreto’s. The family’s production company, LC Barreto, has produced and co-produced more than 80 short and feature films over the past 50 years. The film “ Paixão Segundo João (The Passion According To João), which portrays the life of Brazilian pianist João Carlos Martins is currently in the works. The catalogue also includes Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands (1976), which was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Foreign Film and held the Brazilian national box-office record for 35 years, and Lula, the Son of Brazil (2009) , a biographical film based on the early life of former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (pictured), as well as a host of rom-coms and political dramas.
