Upfront week continues. Today, ABC picked up four comedies and five dramas for 2016-2017 (in addition to a four special or mini-series, a Dirty Dancing live musical event). Five new scripted shows will premiere in the fall: Comedies American Housewife and Speechless and dramas Conviction, Designated Survivor and Notorious. Katie Otto stars in American Housewife as a confident mom raising a flawed family in a wealthy suburban town. Minnie Driver stars as a mother determined to fight for her kids and husband, especially her eldest son with special needs in Speechless. Hayley Atwell (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) plays the brilliant daughter of a politician who is blackmailed into taking a job at the Conviction Integrity Unit in Conviction. In Designated Survivor, Kiefer Sutherland (24) stars as a lower-level U.S. cabinet member who becomes president after an attack on Washington. Notorious, inspired by the true-life stories of famed criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos and cable news producer Wendy Walker looks at how criminal law and the media intersect.
