World citizen and universally loved Elie Wahba is the International TV Distribution Hall of Fame honoree for VideoAge’s May Studio Issue (out on May 21) .
Elie’s professional TV career spans 53 years, and is still going strong, as senior vice president of Latin America-Caribbean at Twentieth Century Fox International Television based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Elie’s life story could well be out of an Indiana Jones movie script: He left his native Cairo to study in Montpellier, south of France, but after the invasion by Israeli forces, and with France and the U.K. battling the Egyptian army around the Suez Canal, he left Egypt and settled in Brazil.
Elie will be the 10th TV executive to receive such an honor. The previous issues of VideoAge have honored such pioneers as Alan Silverbach (U.S.), Marcel Vinay Sr. (Mexico), Max Gusberti (Italy), Bruce Gordon (Australia), Herb Lazarus (U.S.), Pedro Leda (Argentina) Cuban-born Armando Nuñez Sr., Reiner Moritz (Germany) and Michael J. Solomon (U.S.).
The International TV Distribution Hall of Fame was created by VideoAge to recognize and honor the contributions of pioneers in the international TV distribution business from all over the world who with their creativity, resourcefulness and professionalism created an industry responsible for the development of television as we know it today.
