Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival has released its full film line-up for the upcoming 23rd edition, which runs April 28–May 8 in Toronto. 232 titles will be presented this year, from 51 countries in 12 screening programs. Women filmmakers represent nearly 40% of the 2016 program. This year, director Ezra Edelman and sports journalist Robert Lipsyte (O.J. Simpson: Made in America); director Tiffany Hsiung, Director of Korean Council for Women Drafted for Military Slavery Meehyang Yoon and subject Gil Won-Ok (The Apology) will join the Scotiabank Big Ideas Series. The festival also expanded the DocX program, an interdisciplinary section that celebrates non-traditional documentary work. Additionally, Hot Docs will present two retrospective programs: Focus On Rosie Dransfeld, a mid-career retrospective of the filmmaker’s work; and the Outstanding Achievement Award Retrospective, honoring the work of documentary filmmaker Steve James.
