The Toronto Film Critics Association has awarded director Deepa Mehta this year’s Technicolor Clyde Gilmour Award, which recognizes industry figures who have enriched the understanding of film in Canada. The award recipient will give $50,000 worth of services to a filmmaker of their choosing, which Mehta will announce this week. Mehta is a transnational artist and the writer-director of Oscar-nominated Water. Set in 1938, the film explores the lives of widows in an ashram in British occupied India.
