At a press conference held at exactly 12 noon today, Lucy Smith, MIPCOM director, outlined the results of MIPCOM Cannes 2022. As far as attendance was concerned, VideoAge had estimated an impressive 8,000 total participants. At today’s press conference, Smith said that there were 10,896 participants from 108 countries, including 3,100 buyers; 321 was the number of exhibitors’ stands. Informally, a RX France representative reported issuing a total of 11,000 badges. Kids’ mart MIPJunior, held over the past weekend, saw 1,311 delegates.
The dates for MIPCOM 2023 are set for October 16-19, and the event will once again not include a “Personality of the Year” celebration like in pre-pandemic times. This is as far as facts and figures are concerned.
As to the predominant type of content negotiated at the market, formats and reality shows dominated print and poster promotion, in addition to seminars and panels.
Moving on to the emotional aspect, the mood of the market was uplifting (also helped by beautiful, sunny days), with a great presence of the major U.S. studios, in addition to many large and medium-size indies from all over the world. “The studios brought Hollywood to Cannes,” boasted Smith during the press conference.
