London-based film and television company Catalyst Global Media, has optioned Frances Hardinge’s novel Cuckoo Song to adapt as a special event TV mini-series. A coming-of-age story about a young girl wrestling with her identity and place in the world, Cuckoo Song is the first YA work to win the British Fantasy Awards’ top prize and was shortlisted for both the Carnegie Medal (for children) and the James Herbert Award (for horror). The family fantasy, set in 1920s England, follows the story of a girl whose world is turned upside down when she finds herself eerily altered, and unearths a magical folklore world as tries to repair a broken family still haunted by the events of WW1. Catalyst will produce Cuckoo Song as a four-part event piece.
