Filming has started in Budapest on BBC Two’s drama The Last Kingdom, from Carnival Films. The second season, adapted by writer Stephen Butchard from Bernard Cornwell’s series of novels, is to return to BBC Two next year, with Netflix joining as a co-production partner. The drama tells a story of revenge, rivalry, love and loyalty in ancient England. Set in the year 878, the second series returns as the warriors fight against the invading Dances: avenging the death of a lost member of the tribe and reclaiming their ancestral land along the way. The series will premiere next year on BBC Two in the UK and on Netflix in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Japan, Spain and Portugal. The series was nominated for the best drama series of 2015 at the RTS Awards.
