Bell Media announced today that it has acquired the Gusto brand in Canada, and will launch a new food-centric channel later this year. This is Bell’s first foray into the culinary world. Under the acquisition, Gusto will feature homegrown culinary programming, in addition to international first-run food and lifestyle series. Bell Media has also secured a multi-year production arrangement with Gusto Worldwide Media to produce exclusive programming for the channel in 4K (UHD). In 2015, Gusto Worldwide Media sold programming in over 30 countries, and the pact with Bell Media will bump up its inventory for global sales. In addition, Gusto Worldwide Media has plans for a Gusto OTT service in several markets outside of Canada by early 2017. Under the deal, Bell Media will also license Gusto Worldwide Media’s existing creative cooking and food series, including marquee original Canadian series’ One World Kitchen, A is for Apple, Crate to Plate and Fish the Dish (pictured).
