Televisa has ordered 10 scripts of the sci-fi thriller The Seventh Day from Scott Shepherd (Deadzone, Haven) and his writing/producing partner Cindy McCreery. The duo will write the scripts and serve as showrunners for the series, which is set in a dismal future seven years after the world is destroyed. The protagonist, Joad, travels halfway across the globe in the hopes that his wife remains alive. This is the company’s second high-volume episode commitment to an English-language series shot in Mexico (the first was spy thriller Duality.) Televisa has also acquired the rights to Shepherd’s serialized novel of the same name, providing a basis for subsequent seasons. Additionally, Televisa USA is in production on the English-language dramas Devious Maids, in collaboration with ABC Studios and executive producer Marc Cherry, on Lifetime; and Maleficio, a supernatural thriller co-production with Starz based on one of the most successful telenovelas of all time.
