Ecuadorian journalist and filmmaker Jeanette Hinostroza will be a featured speaker at Documentary Campus’ MIPDoc panel “True Crime: What’s the Buzz.” The panel focuses on the popularity of true-life crime programming (as proven by the success of Netflix’s Making a Murderer) and will be held on April 2. Hinostroza’s documentary, Nelson Serrano—I’m Innocent distributed by GRB Entertainment, tells the story of Nelson Serrano, an immigrant businessman who is serving on Florida’s death row. He was illegally taken from his home in Ecuador, and convicted of murdering four people. Serrano maintains that he was wrongly imprisoned and held with no tangible evidence.
