The Whistler Film Festival has crowned Joe Balass of Compass Productions as winner of the inaugural Power Pitch competition, for Venus, a dramedy where a man transitioning into a woman discovers she is the father of a 13-year-old boy. Canadian producers sharpen their skills and pitch their projects to motion pictures sales agents during Power Pitch. Balass was awarded a $1,000 cash prize sponsored by CMPA-BC, plus a $10,000 credit for Studio Space provided by Ironwood Studios of Vancouver and a $2,500 post-production credit provided by Finalé Post. Balass was also awarded 30 minutes with each of the three industry experts to receive project feedback and form relationships within the industry.
