With MIPCOM behind us, and now that we have some time to catch our collective breath (before heading to AFM and then ATF before year’s end), we at VideoAge thought we’d take a look back on this year’s MIPCOM numbers:
13,500: That’s the number of international delegates organizers say attended the 2013 event in Cannes. That number represents an increase over both 2012 (12,900) and 2011 (12,500).
100: The number of countries from which these delegates hailed, according to Reed MIDEM.
4,623: The number of international acquisitions executives at the event.
1,000: The number of those acquisitions executives that were digital buyers.
98: The number of companies that exhibited from Argentina, this year’s Country of Honor. (Note: last year’s Country of Honor, Canada, was represented by 252 companies).
283: The delegation of Argentinean executives attending MIPCOM. The total number of participants from Latin America were estimated at 700, making MIPCOM the third largest TV trade show for LATAM after NATPE Miami and the L.A. Screenings.
Now, looking forward to next year, Reed MIDEM has announced that Mexico has been named MIPCOM 2014’s Country of Honor. The program is being organized in partnership with PROMEXICO, the government agency which supports Mexican exports internationally and is in charge of attracting investment in the country. The focus on Mexico will include conferences, screening showcases, co-production matchmaking and Mexican-themed networking events. The focus on Mexico will launch at MIP-TV 2014 (April 7-10) and will extend through MIPCOM 2014 (October 13-16). Mexico happens to be the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world, and the larges producer of Spanish-language content.
Also new for 2014, Reed MIDEM has announced the launch of the MIP Digital Fronts at MIP-TV 2014. The international screenings will showcase and trade original online video programming and web series. The Digital Fronts will take place on Wednesday, April 9. The program will feature a full day of screenings from world-renowned platforms, digital studios and online channels, covering all genres, according to Reed MIDEM.
