In its 22nd year, SportelMonaco, the international sports program market for television and new media, will take place from October 10-13 at the Grimaldi Forum, which makes it both a blessing and a challenge for many exhibitors that will also be attending MIPCOM a few days earlier. It’s a blessing in the sense that it saves time and airfare – executives can take just one trip to the South of France and attend two markets. But it’s also a challenge because, when combined with MIPCOM, it means over 10 days out of the office.
Last year, there were over 2,000 participants from 922 companies and 68 countries. And this year, numbers will likely be similar. In addition to thousands of executives, representing about 60 countries, several sports stars will also make appeareances at the market, including swimming champion Yannick Agnel and GP2 driver Stefano Coletti.
In between their back-to-back meetings, executives can attend conferences – “Olympic Games – The Lean Forward Revolution in Sports” on Monday, and “Smart TV – Added Value for Sport?” on Tuesday.
Another big draw of SportelMonaco is the George Bertelotti Golden Podium Awards ceremony, which recognizes the best in sports TV images and slow motion. The best sequences will be screened at the ceremony on Tuesday, October 11. The International Prize of the Best Illustrated Sports Book will also be handed out at Sportel.
Sportel’s next market — in the spring of 2012 — will take place at the Sofitel on Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro.
